Don't miss the 2019 Fort Ben Farmers Market every Thursday from June 6 to October 3. Chris and I enjoy visiting the market for local produce and specialty items. Our market manager, Mandy Wright-Jarrett plans special events throughout the market this year, like a vintage record night, a dog parade, pick-up soccer games, reading under the tree for children and a chalk art competition at the Civic Plaza.
The market hours are 4-7 p.m. every Thursday, rain or shine. As Mandy says, "Get it fresh at the Fort!"
Fourth of July Entries
Be sure to send your entry forms into Parks & Recreation Director Eric Martin this month if you plan to join the Fourth of July parade at 10 a.m. For more information, visit the city's website @cityoflawrence.org.
The Car Show, Lions' Fish Fry, concerts at the park, carnival and fireworks will all be part of Lawrence's traditional Fourth of July celebration.
Community Safety Day
The fourth annual "Wingin it with Our First Responders" and Community Safety Day are scheduled for August 10 at Station 40. Pick your favorite public safety team for the hot wings contest and help raise funds for a local charity. Currently, LPD has a 2-1 lead on LFD in the annual competition.
